Dinner in Killarney
Dinner in Killarney
Welcome to our first post! As we prepare for our second busy season here in Killarney we wanted to start our blog to talk about how we stand out from the large number of restaurants in Killarney! Vendricks Restaurant is known for contemporary Irish Cooking and is a popular destination for Dinner in Killarney . We have also been described as one of the more Romantic Restaurants in Killarney.
What’s in a name
We are often asked how we came to called Vendricks . The Franciscan Friary is just up the street from our restaurant and it has been a landmark in the town of Killarney since its construction in the early 1860’s. However the Franciscans that built the Friary were Belgian Friars. The Belgian Franciscan Provincial that agreed to send some friars to Ireland was Fr. Archangelus Vendricks! Thus we decided to name our restaurant after this visionary Friar and we actually opened our restaurant on the 7th of December 2018 – The 150th Anniversary of the Opening of the Friary in Killarney! Killarney has been welcoming visitors for over 250 years. We are all very proud of our vibrant ‘little’ town and the incredibly beautiful surrounding countryside which makes Killarney a very special place indeed. Full of history, heritage, activities, and world class hospitality. Vendricks is surrounded by many charming hotels & guesthouses, some of which have been welcoming visitors for generations. Among these are our next door neighbours the Killarney Royal Hotel, the ever elegant Great Southern Hotel, and the luxurious Killarney Park Hotel. If you would like to stay a slightly away from the bustle of vibrant Killarney, the Randles Hotel and Dromhall Hotel are also great options!
As we are killarney born and bred we have decided to pass on some of our local knowledge to those of you thinking of visiting Killarney so stay tuned for the first of many a “blog” from Vendricks!! In the mean time we look forward to seeing you for Dinner in Killarney
