Having only one day to see all the sights of Killarney is not ideal, however as Killarney Locals ourselves we in Vendricks are always trying to help people fit as much as possible into their visit to Killarney and thus we have compiled our own list of favourites. By no means a definitive list but an itinerary that is manageable in a day.

Killarney National Park & Muckross House and Gardens

We’d advise that you start your day in Killarney National Park, journeying there straight after breakfast! The focus point for the Killarney National Park for us is Muckross House and Gardens as its nestled within the Killarney National Park itself. But the Park is a vast natural place, with incredible flora, fauna and wildlife. Muckross House is always worth a visit especially if the Irish weather proves to be a little moist. The gardens and walking routes around Muckross are without doubt a lovely sample of what lies beyond in the wonderful National Park. However if you are short on time we have a cunning plan that allows you to see more in less time – so next stop is back towards the town of Killarney and on to Ross Castle.

Ross Castle

Outside of actually getting up close and personal with a real Irish Castle, Ross Castle is the starting point for the Boat Tour to Lord Brandons Cottage. Boats leave Ross Castle daily at 11.00am and travel through the lakes, via the meeting of the waters and the long range to Lord Brandon’s Cottage. Here you can avail of refreshments before continuing your journey to Kate Kearney’s Cottage or you may return by boat to Ross Castle. Boats leave Lord Brandon’s Cottage at 2.00pm. Duration – 1 hour and 30 minutes each way approx. A light lunch is also available at Lord Brandon’s Cottage.  We think that this is one of the best ways to see Killarney – from the water!

A Walk in the Park

If you are feeling energetic or just want to stretch your legs after your boat trip the Ross Castle Small Loop is a 6km stroll! But there is also a Ross Castle Big Loop which brings you out to the beautiful Castlerosse Resort which although all on the flat and without any car traffic is a much longer walk which leads back to Killarney Town. For those of you in search of a gentler stroll the grounds of Killarney House or Knockreer House are equally lovely and both are within close proximity of the Town. Should the weather not co-operate entirely with your plans we suggest that you experience the bustling vibe of the narrow streets of Killarney, which is home to a number of shops and historic sites.

Dinner in Killarney

We like to think of ourselves as one of Killarney’s Best Restaurants. Thus as one of the Best Restaurants in Killarney we need to tell why dinner at Vendricks is the perfect place to spend your early evening! Firstly we are known as a one of the more Romantic Restaurants in Killarney. Secondly, Vendricks stands out amongst the many Restaurants in Killarney with our homemade food, contemporary Irish Cooking, using locally sourced ingredients, stylish interior, combined with a warm welcome.

Nightlife in Killarney

Finish your day with pint of Guinness, head to one the many local pubs. It really depends on what you are looking for! We like the Danny Mann Pub on New Street – we like it as its cosy, yet spacious bar area, but there is a pub/ nightclub for everybody in Killarney!
